In the seven years since Sideways, Alexander Payne has mostly been in producer mode and you might have blocked out the fact that he co-wrote I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. Returning to the big-screen in a big way, he's got lit-world approved material with his adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings's debut novel, that ponders living wills, drug-addicted minors, adultery, land development, and other real-world themes. Sounds like a custom fit for Payne, and we're hoping the film serves as a major introduction for Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller, who play Clooney and Greer's daughters. We also welcome back Matthew Lillard, who is more talented than the roles he's offered. And we shouldn't have to wait so long for Payne's follow-up since he has the road-tripping Nebraska waiting in the wings.
